MobileForester is a combination of a high-tech device and a mobile-app which performs forestry measurements as simply and accurately as possible by means of one device. Forest areas are increasingly important in our life for protecting the environment and producing valuable wood as raw material. The utilization of natural resources like wood requires conscious, sustainable activity of modern forestry and one of its keystones is precise and effective measurement. MobileForester measures forest inventory quickly and precisely. After felling, this device can be used to determine the solid volume of wood for both logs and stacks.

Functions
MobileForester is a highly advanced solution for forestry measurements. Currently, it can be used in the following areas:
Stack Volume
Highlights:
- Volume measurement of entire log stacks
- Can be used effectively for stacks 1-3 meters long

Determining the stack volume is an important and time-consuming task. We can save time and money by using MobileForester to measure stack solid volume. Reducing the potential for error, the device provides precise data, which are reliable for both of the company and the customer.
During the measurement we take a photo of the stack, which can be drawn around with the help of the application. In the resulting image, an algorithm automatically detects the butts. We can correct manually if necessary.
From the resulting surface and the length given at the beginning of the measurement, the device calculates the solid volume. Three data tables can be retrieved at the end of the process: summary information about the stack, classified data based on log diameter classes, and individual data.
The equipment is very useful for lumberjacks, for foresters and also for timber traders.

Using MobileForester, we can determine the volume of individual logs, too. The application detects the circumference of the log butt automatically and finds the diameter using a circle fitting method with equal area. This circle can also be corrected manually, if necessary. The algorithm can be applied to oval logs, too. Using the derived butt diameter and the user-specified length, the application calculates the volume of the log.

Relascope

MobileForester determines the living stock of the forest site quickly, making forest management more efficient and precise. Using a relascope is the most complex task in the forest to determine the living stock of a forest site. The method is similar to the Bitterlich relascope, but the digital technology increases both accuracy and efficiency.
In the MobileForester application, you can select tree species in advance or at any time point during basal area measurement for each sample plot. The device saves and displays all relevant information while sampling is in progress. This eliminates the need to keep anything in mind during the survey. The zoom function greatly contributes to the accuracy of the measurement, as it makes it easy to decide whether the tree fits the selected bandwidth or not. MobileForester offers four bandwidths, which provide greater measurement accuracy in thicker or end-use forest sites. The measuring height is assisted by a built-in leveling.
The average tree height and diameter can also be determined for each sample plot and for each tree species for that plot by measurement or estimation. Canopy coverage has to be provided by estimation. The device shows the direction angle (heading) continuously during the assessment so the entire area can be traversed according to a set plan. The application also allows you to view statistics for each sample plot and for the whole area involved.

Relascope
Stand Volume

MobileForester can be used to collect field data for simplified stand volume estimation. Measured trunk diameter data are arranged into diameter classes for each tree species, based on a user-defined rounding value. For each diameter class, sample count of recorded trunk diameters and optionally any additional measured/estimated tree height value can be overviewed during the measurement process on the field, to check if sampling is representative.
To start the measurement, you must first select a forest parcel from a list by tapping the corresponding button. This list can be created in the office to accelerate field work but it can be modified at any stage of data collection. During measurement, it is possible to change the selected forest parcel while moving on the route related to the field survey. In this way, multiple forest parcels can be surveyed in a sampling project and you can easily switch back to a previous one if your path crosses the same parcel boundary several times.
Exported data tables can be used to generate stand height curves to determine live stock volume of forest parcels.
Tree Diameter

The revolutionary advantage of MobileForester is the remote measurement of tree diameter. Using this high tech equipment, it is no longer necessary to go to the tree to measure its diameter; it can be done from far. From one measuring position, many tree diameters can be measured without moving, providing the highest measuring efficiency and saving a lot of time.
The equipment is very fast and simple to use thanks to the built-in high tech sensors and its intelligent algorithm. Just point the crosshairs at the tree at breast height, and the measurement is just one click. The result is available immediately and can be stored or can be repeated. The data are stored in an easy to use file format.
The species are recorded automatically during the measurement. We can enter the species in the beginning but we can modify it during the survey or even add a new one.

Tree Diameter
Tree Height
Highlights:

MobileForester lets you measure the height of a tree from a remote distance on flat and also on sloped terrain. To measure tree height in a flat area, just measure the distance of the tree and the angle of its peak. In a sloped area at first we measure the distance of the trunk, and then the base and the angle to the top of the tree. The device calculates the height and displays it on the screen.
The rapidity and accuracy of the measurement is greatly aided by the zoom function showing the target enlarged on the display. The measured data is stored in a file and can be used in digital form for further processing. MobileForester is high-tech equipment for effective forest measurements.

Tree Height
Ground Slope
Highlights:

MobileForester can be used to determine ground surface inclination. Targeting an object with the same vertical distance from the ground as the MobileForester device in-hand or on a monopod ensures proper measurement. Built-in zoom functionality helps aiming which is assisted using a multi-color state cross-hair displayed on top of live camera preview on the device's screen. Measurement result is displayed as angle of inclination in degrees and as percent of slope.
Distance
Highlights:
- Via distance sensor built into the adapter
- Targeting with Zoom function on live camera view
- Measurement range: 50 m (up to 80 m depending on light conditions)
- Accuracy: ±3 mm
MobileForester measures the distance of individual trees and other objects in the field up to 50 meters with a high level of accuracy. Built-in zooming functionality helps target distant objects and aiming can be enhanced by selecting proper color of cross-hair by tapping it multiple times. Base of the measured distance is at the front glass of MobileForester intelligent adapter.
